Rolleston FC Web Site
Role Detail

The role consists of the following:

Be the administrator of the club domain name www.rollestonfc.co.uk with www.ukreg.com, including paying the bi-annual domain name registration fee (to be then claimed back from the club).

Arrange a suitable, cost effective hosting package for the web site and be the point of contact for this contract, including maintaining the link between the hosting company's domain servers and the domain name (managed via ukreg.com). Note, the current hosting package was provided free of charge by the company hosting Gary's own web site so this arrangement will end as the site transfers over.

Be responsible for the design and maintenance of the club web site. The site could be redesigned subject to the approval of the club committee.

Work with the team manager's and the committee to keep the sponsor information for each squad up-to-date on the site.

Be responsible for the technical administration of any e-mail accounts associated with the club domain name.

Attend club monthly committee meetings and the AGM to report on any issues relating to the web site.

Be the initial moderator of content on the web site, escalating any dispute on the content to the club committee.

Liaise with the club Child Protection Officer (CPO) to ensure web site content complies with current Child Protection legislation and guidelines.

Example: before including a squad photo on the site, you need written parental consent from the parents of all squad members, one copy for yourself and one copy with the club CPO.

Overview of the Current Site Design

(As a measure of your suitability, if the text below is completely meaningless to you, then perhaps the role is not for you!)

The site is a mix of html and php web pages based on a Dreamweaver v4 template (so not currently using CSS for the main site).

(As such, it is unlikely that you would be able to maintain the existing site design using Microsoft FrontPage.)

Some javascript has been used on web pages to enhance functionality.

  • Date on home page
  • 'Jump to' menus on home page and news page.
  • 'Add to Favourites' button on the home page
  • Calendar on the news page
  • Scrolling results box on home page (not currently in use).
  • Tag board on home page (not currently in use).

Photo albums from Presentation Nights built using Jalbum, with the associated CSS modified to use the club colours.

iframes used to include content from other sites, for example the results page.

A bulletin board/forum using phpbb exists on the site although it is not currently in use.

The phpbb installation also has a skin installed to match the club colours (the skin is Morpheus Red) and some of the graphics have been customised within the skin template.

The phpbb software would require upgrading to the latest version if it was to be reopened for postings to minimise security issues.

Site header and navigation buttons designed in Adobe Photoshop.

Need to be familiar with FTP for uploading files to the site.

Please note that you will need to provide your own computer hardware and software for this role.

Software currently used for the site:

  • Dreamweaver v4
  • Adobe Photoshop Elements v8 (versions 5 to 8 would be compatible)
  • FTP Surfer (freeware)
  • Some direct html editing in MS Notepad

If you are interested in taking on this role, please contact the club Chairman, Paul Gopsill.
