Mayfield Panthers FC Black 3-3 Rolleston FC Black

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: James Tunnicliffe, Daniel Shill, Shaun Harrison. Midfield: Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Declan Glasby, Adam Shaw.

Not available: Scott Watkins, Thomas Chamberlain, Blake Skinner.

The last game of the season but Shobnall still managed to produce a fierce, freezing wind and it snowed twice during the game, lovely!

From the kick-off Rolleston showed the right attitude for this match, the midfield were swarming all over the Panthers players, winning the ball and the early minutes were dominated by Rolleston. The midfield trio of Liam Gray, Ryan Lister and Harry Gaunt all had outstanding games today and between them they created an early chance that saw the Mayfield defence scrambling to block and then clear after three attempted shots on goal.

After a Rolleston attack broke down and Mayfield counter-attacked, Harry Gaunt tracked back over half the length of the pitch to help the defence and make a crucial tackle.

Rolleston went on the attack again and a powerful drive from Liam Dakin was well saved by the 'keeper but Joshua Harris followed up well to slot the rebound into the net, 0-1 to Rolleston and we fully deserved the lead.

Mayfield nearly struck back when a corner was headed just over the bar but Rolleston were soon back on the attack and were unlucky not to score again when a very impressive sweeping passing move resulted in a Liam Gray header being cleared off the goal line.

Jake Fearn played a solid game in goal, making some text book saves when called upon, getting his body behind the ball and catching safely.

Another passing move that was started by James Tunnicliffe in defence and involved Ryan Lister and Joshua Harris befroe Harry Gaunt flicked the ball through ended in a clearance when we we all hoping for a goal!

Shaun Harrison was impressive in defence, winning the ball and setting up our midfield for the next attack and Daniel Shill was also covering the right back position well, showing again the progress he has made this season.

Rolleston won a free kick just outside the penalty box on the left, Liam Dakin took it and it looked to be heading into the far top corner but just went over.

Liam Dakin then had another shot go just wide and a headed clearance by James Tunnicliffe was flicked on by Liam Dakin to Joshua Harris but his shot was well saved.

Half time 0-1 and James Tunnicliffe was replaced due to illness, Declan Glasby coming on in his place.

Early in the second half Jake Fearn made another good blocking save and Rolleston immediately counter attacked, a Liam Gray cross was flicked on by Liam Dakin and Joshua Harris was in place to finish the move, 0-2.

For the next few minutes Rolleston totally dominated the play and it looked like they were going to run away with the game but Mayfield showed some real determination and got back into the game when the wind took a harmless chip forward and carried it over Jake leaving a tap in for a Mayfield player, 1-2.

Liam Dakin received a pass in our half in the centre circle and ran through, leaving three Mayfield players trying to catch up with him but his shot went just wide.

Mayfield then put together their best move of the match, sweeping down their right and then a drive across the face of the goal was met at the far post for an easy equaliser, 2-2.

Mayfield started to created even more chances of their own and just when it looked like one of their midfielders had got through on goal, Daniel Shill mad a superb saving tackle to end the move.

Rolleston responded and there was anothe goalmouth scramble with several blocked shots. This was followed by another Rolleston attack and this time, Ryan Lister received the ball at the edge of the box on the left and hit an absolutely unstoppable shot into the roof of the net, 2-3 and a great goal.

Jake Fearn was replaced in goal for the last few minutes by Adam Shaw and with virtually the last kick of the game a Mayfield player hit a shot that seemed to squirt into the goal, hitting the side netting, 3-3. The final whistle blew as soon as the game restarted.

We were unlucky not to win this match but the performance of the whole squad was outstanding today, congratulations guys on a really impressive team performance.

Scorers:

  • Joshua Harris (2)
  • Ryan Lister (1)

Man of the Match: Shaun Harrison - impressive in defence and in passing the ball into midfield.

Today was the last match for Alan Dakin as team manager so many thanks to both Alan and Vicky for all the work you have both put into this squad over the last few years!

01st March 2008

Rolleston Black 2-4 Mayfield Panthers Black

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: James Tunnicliffe, Daniel Shill, Shaun Harrison. Midfield: Scott Watkins, Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Striker: Liam Dakin .

Substitutes: Declan Glasby, Adam Shaw, Joshua Harris.

Not available: Thomas Chamberlain, Blake Skinner.

Another freezing, gusting gale of a wind made playing conditions difficult for both teams this week and with just two games left this season, both against the Panthers, it was important that we gave them a good game.

The first few minutes of the game were dominated by midfield play and the two teams looked evenly matched. Any ball played into the air was blown randomly off course by the wind and this was causing problems for the defence and keepers of both sides.

With their first serious attack on goal, Mayfield moved down their left wing and a low, hard cross was deflected by a Panthers striker, the ball looped across goal, the wind caught it and the ball flew into the goal, 0-1.

Mayfield then enjoyed a period of pressurising the Rolleston defence, good defending from Daniel Shill, James Tunnicliffe and Shaun Harrison (who gave an outstanding performance for the whole game) kept the score as it was. Ryan Lister was replaced by Joshua Harris and almost as soon as he ran on the pitch, Joshua threaded a pass through the Mayfield defence for Liam Dakin to run through and score, 1-1.

Both sides then worked hard to create chances, the Panthers went close with a shot that flashed just wide. Declan Glasby replaced Scott Watkins. Mayfield again increased the pressure on the Rolleston defence and after Jake came off his line to save the ball with his legs, the ball deflected to a Panthers striker for a simple tap-in to give them the lead again, 1-2.

Within two minutes, Mayfield again got forward in numbers and despite Daniel Shill blocking one shot on the line, he unluckily stood on the ball and it again gave the striker a tap-in, 1-3.

At this point Rolleston were only just hanging onto the game and we finished the half at 1-3.

For the second half, Joshua and Declan were replaced by Ryan and Scott and Ryan had a shot from the edge of the penalty area well caught by the keeper. The next phase of the game was evenly matched and Alan rotated players on and off regularly to keep the midfield and defence lively.

A neat pass from Ryan Lister found Liam Gray running into space on the left, Liam hit a good shot but the Panthers keeper was well positioned to save. In quick succession, Harry Gaunt and Shaun Harrison made good saving tackles to deny the Panthers players in our penalty area.

Liam Dakin then hit a half volley just wide and this was followed by our best move of the game. Scott Watkins tackled a Mayfield player on the edge of their penalty area, he moved forward with the ball and played a pass across to Ryan Lister. Ryan then passed through the defence for Liam Dakin, his shot looked to be going in but their goalkeeper made an excellent diving save but pushed the ball into the path of Harry Gaunt who calmly put the ball into the net, 2-3.

Unfortunately, from the kick off, Mayfield split our defence, running straight through the middle to score, 2-4.

In the remaining minutes of the game, Liam Dakin had another shot just wide and Joshua Harris and Shaun Harrison both made good defending tackles in our penalty area to beak up Mayfield attacks.

Final score 2-4 but with better weather conditions and more passing, we could have won today.

Scorers:

  • Liam Dakin (1)
  • Harry Gaunt (1)

Man of the Match: Liam Dakin - a well taken goal and was a constant threat to the defence.

Rolleston Black 4-0 Winshill FC Green

(A shorter match report this week as I was linesman for this match and therefore could not watch all the action or make any notes)

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: James Tunnicliffe, Blake Skinner, Shaun Harrison. Midfield: Scott Watkins, Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Striker: Liam Dakin .

Substitutes: Daniel Shill, Declan Glasby, Adam Shaw, Joshua Harris.

Not available: Thomas Chamberlain.

Another traditional Shobnall Saturday morning, freezing cold and blowing a gale saw Rolleston Black hoping to rediscover the form that has been missing for a few weeks now.

From the kick off, Rolleston demonstrated that they were determined to control this game, the Winshill midfield and defence had to soak up almost contant pressure, rarely getting out of their own half. Despite this pressure, for the opening minutes of the game, I don't remember Rolleston having a serious shot on goal.

The breakthrough came after about 10 minutes when Rolleston put together a smooth, flowing passing move which was finished by Harry Gaunt driving a fierce shot into the roof of the net, 1-0.

Joshua Harris replaced Scott Watkins.

Within a few minutes Joshua Harris added a second with a close range finish to make it 2-0.

The defence of Blake Skinner, Shaun Harrison and James Tunnicliffe kept their concentration and when needed, tackeld well and played the ball back into out midfield. Jake Fearn had little to do in goal today but did collect a few through balls with well timed runs off his line.

In midfield, Liam Gray and Harry Gaunt were running at the Winshill defence at every opportunity and Ryan Lister was also pushing forward to support the attack.

Just before half time Joshua Harris moved into the Winshill penalty area and took a shot that was on target but was deflected into the goal, I'd say it was your goal JJ!

Half time 3-0

With the wind behind us in the second half, Rolleston were camped in the Winshill half, as linesman for the day, I only had to move from the half way line four times in the whole of the half! Each time the Rolleston defence quickly won the ball back and started another attack.

A quick mention for Scott Watkins, Declan Galsby and Daniel Shill who all had time on the pitch and who all helped keep the pressure on Winshill. Adam Shaw replaced Jake in goal and just like Jake, he had little to do.

Despite this pressure, Winshill's defence held firm until, with about ten minutes to go. Liam Dakin found the bak of the net to give us a 4-0 lead.

Many more chances went begging and we did not add to the score in the remaining minutes.

A quick mention of the referee, I thought he was the best ref we've had all season and also to Winshill who never gave up, woked their sock's off and played the game in the right spirit.

Scorers:

  • Harry Gaunt (1)
  • Joshua Harris (2)
  • Liam Dakin (1)

Man of the Match: Joshua Harris - Scored twice and troubled the Winshill defence constantly.

Rolleston Black 2-3 Whittington FC Lions

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: Blake Skinner, James Tunnicliffe, Shaun Harrison. Midfield: Scott Watkins, Harry Gaunt, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Ryan Lister.

Substitutes: Thomas Chamberlain, Adam Shaw, Declan Glasby, Daniel Shill, Joshua Harris.

A bitterly cold but bright morning and our first league game for a while. Within a minute or two of the kick-off, Whittington broke down their right wing and a hard low cross into the penalty area was met by a Whittington striker but the shot was mis-hit wide, a very early warning!

A Rolleston throw-in was headed on by Ryan Lister but the goalkeeper collected the ball as Liam Dakin ran through. Almost immediately, the Lions broke down the right again and another cross was again placed just wide by the striker, warning number 2!

More pressure from Whittington resulted in a free kick, Shaun Harrison tackled well in our own penalty area and cleared but the ball came straight back and this time Whittington scored, 0-1.

After a few minutes of midfield battling, Whittington started a move down their left, Daniel Shill made a great tackle to win the ball back and then played a perfect pass through the middle for Liam Dakin to run onto, Liam collected the ball and ran around the goalkeeper to equalise, 1-1.

Within a minute, the Whittington number 7 ran through the middle virtually unchallenged and scored to put the Lions back in the lead, 1-2.

Blake Skinner replaced Daniel Shill. For the next few minutes, Rolleston had slightly more possession but did not produce much quality whilst Whittington looked dangerous every time they attacked our goal. Declan Glasby replaced Scott Watkins as the Lions increased the pressure and Rolleston were lucky to end the half at 1-2 down.

Joshua Harris came on for the second half, replacing Declan and Ryan Lister dropped back into midfield. From the second half kick off, Rolleston showed more determination and spirit and started winning more tackes and passing the ball around. Liam Dakin nearly latched onto a through ball but the keeper ran out to clear.

The game became a midfield battle for a while and then a pass from Harry Gaunt split the defence and Liam Gray collected it and cooly placed the ball into the net to equalise, 2-2.

Scott Watkins replaced Ryan Lister and the game remained finely balanced. A James Tunnicliffe free kick into the penalty area was met on the half volley by Liam Dakin but went wide. Jake Fearn then made a great save, divig to his left to push the ball around the post when it looked a certain goal.

Two incidents in the space of the next few minutes decided the result of this game, first, Liam Dakin was tackled as he was about to shoot but the referee ignored calls for a penalty.

Rolleston went straight back on the attack, another Liam Dakin shot was well saved by the keeper and the rebound fell to Joshua Harris who was unlucky to see his shot hit the post. Thomas Chamberlain replaced Blake Skinner.

The Lions then worked the ball down into our area and a tackle that was no better, no worse than the one on Liam resulted in a penalty to the Lions which was scored, 2-3.

Adam Shaw came on in goal for his league debut, replacing Jake Fearn and within a minute Adam made a good diving save to his left.

Final score 2-3.

This game saw a great number of 'odd' decisions from the ref, clear throws to one team were given to the other and he awarded the Lions a free kick when two Lions players tripped over each other! No comment about the two penalty decisions!

A good second half performance from Rolleston, at long last the effort came back and you started to play as a team again, keep it up!!

Scorers:

  • Liam Dakin (1)
  • Liam Gray (1)

Man of the Match: Liam Dakin - a well taken goal and was a constant threat to the defence.

**Friendly Match (11-a-side)** Rolleston Black 5-7 Repton Casuals

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Adam Shaw, Defence: Blake Skinner, Shaun Harrison, Declan Glasby, Daniel Shill. Midfield: Harry Gaunt, James Tunnicliffe, Scott Watkins, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Thomas Chamberlain, Adam Casey.

Not available: Jake Fearn, Ryan Lister.

Another friendly, this time at Shobnall, the weather was better but the conditions were muddy. This match was played at 11-a-side on one of the pitches normally used for girls football which is bigger than the 9-a-side but a little smaller than the 11-a side pitches we will be using next season.

Rolleston dominated the beginning of the game, good passing and movement saw many attacks and a well struck shot from outside the penalty box by Scott Watkins saw Rolleston take the lead and this was soon followed by a goal from Liam Dakin for a 2-0 lead and we looked set for a comfortable win.

It was not to be though, Repton fought back and Rolleston simply did not respond, the work rate fell away, passes went astray and Repton scored 3 quick goals to take the lead. This woke Rolleston up and Liam Dakin scored again to make it 3-3 at half time.

There were some periods of good play in the second half, especially from Scott Watkins and Liam Gray and Liam Dakin scored another to give Rolleston a 4-3 lead.

Repton then scored twice to go 4-5 ahead and from the kick-off after their fifth, Liam Dakin went on a solo run down the left and drilled home a great shot to make the score 5-5.

The second half saw Repton playing as a team and working hard and Rolleston were struggling to string 3 passes together, the defence held their line but were static, letting the Repton strikers run through unchallenged, midfield got forward but were not getting back quickly enough and our strikers did not make use of the space on the bigger pitch.

Repton added two more goals to finish the game 5-7 winners, their first victory over Rolleston Black.

Less arguing and more team spirit needed guys, there are 4 games left this season and we are still not safe from relegation!

Scorers:

  • Scott Watkins (1)
  • Liam Dakin (4)

Man of the Match: Liam Dakin and Liam Gray

**Friendly Match** Willington FC Yellow 0-4 Rolleston Black

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Adam Shaw, Defence: James Tunnicliffe, Shaun Harrison. Midfield: Scott Watkins, Adam Casey, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Daniel Shill, Harry Gaunt, Declan Glasby, Jake Fearn.

Not available: Thomas Chamberlain, Blake Skinner.

With no league game for a couple of weeks, this friendly was played on Sunday afternoon at Willington's home pitch. It was another freezing cold, windy day and Rolleston played the first half uphill with the wind in their faces.

This game saw the debut of Adam Shaw in goal and a rare start for Adam Casey, prevented from playing this season by a FA rule that meant he was just 3 weeks too young!

Rolleston took a while to get used to the pitch and the weather conditions but they were in control for the majority of this game. Willington did force a corner at one point but Adam Shaw did not need to make a save in the first half, just clear up a couple of through balls that were too long for the strikers to reach.

Rolleston put the Willington defence under sustained pressure without having too many shots on target for most of the first half but finally made a breakthrough when Liam Dakin hit a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area into the roof of the net. Adam Casey then came close when his shot was cleared off the line by a Willington defender and Liam Gray gave the Willington right back a torrid time, dribbling past him numerous times and providing passes and crosses.

Half Time 0-1.

For the second half, Jake Fearn replaced Adam Shaw in goal, Harry Gaunt replaced Adam Casey, James Tunnicliffe came back on for Daniel Shill and Declan Glasby came back on for Ryan Lister.

With the sloping pitch and the wind in our favour, Rolleston camped themselves in Willington's half, creating lot's of chances but it was about 20 minutes before we added to the score. Eventually though, Joshua Harris scored twice and Liam Gray once to make the score reflect the possession and the dominance Rolleston had.

Towards the end of the game, Daniel Shill, Adam Casey and Ryan Lister came back on for James Tunnicliffe, Declan Glasby and Scott Watkins and there was time for Adam Casey to have another close range shot cleared off the line.

Full time 0-4.

Both Adam's settled in well for this game and it was a good all round performance.

Scorers:

  • Joshua Harris (2)
  • Liam Dakin (1)
  • Liam Gray (1)
Adam Shaw has now joined the squad

Rolleston Black 0-6 Newhall FC Lions

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: Thomas Chamberlain, James Tunnicliffe. Midfield: Shaun Harrison, Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Scott Watkins, Declan Glasby, Daniel Shill, Blake Skinner.

A freezing, gusting wind made todays game uncomfortable to watch or to play in after yet another long break without a game.

Newhall started this game with the wind behind them and they took full advantage of the conditions and put the Rolleston defence under lots of pressure. Most of the first 10 minutes of the game were played in the Rolleston half of the pitch and Rolleston were really struggling to cope with the conditions and with a Newhall midfield that were controlling the game.

Jake Fearn saved well with his legs and finally Rolleston started to move the ball into Newhall territory, Liam Gray battling well down the left but the Lion's defence cleared.

Newhall then scored two goals in quick succession, both well taken, with the second flying in off a post. Newhall continued to pile on the pressure and Rolleston were looking slow to the ball and struggling to compete.

A good pass through the defence by Ryan Lister found Liam Dakin, he moved into the penalty box with the ball but as he was about to shoot he was tackled by a Lions' defender. This sparked some life into Rolleston because for the next few minutes they created a few chances and had Newhall under pressure for the first time in the match, a Liam Dakin cross from the right just eluded Liam Gray as the swirling wind moved the ball out of reach.

Liam Gray then got the ball in space on the left hand edge of the box and tried a shot across the goal, the ball seemed to be heading for the top corner as it looped towards goal but it hit the top of the crossbar instead!

Within a minute, Liam Dakin took possession of the ball even further out on the right, he looked up, saw the Newhall keeper off his line and tried to chip the ball into the net, again it looke to be going in but unfortunately bounced just wide.

Newhall then moved the ball into our penalty area and were awarded a penalty for a tackle where the Lions player stayed on his feet, it seemed generous, let's leave it at that. Although Jake dived the right way, the ball squimed under him and we were trailing 0-3 at the half time whistle.

Daniel Shill replaced Thomas Chamberlain at half time and from the kick off Rolleston moved into Newhall territory and Ryan Lister had a shot well saved. Rolleston then conceded a fourth as the ball was worked down the left and played across goal for a tap in.

Liam Dakin followed up a shot that the goalkeeper fumbled but the 'keeper was quickly on his feet to save the second shot. Newhall then added a fifth from a long range shot that dropped into the far corner. Blake Skinner replaced James Tunnicliffe and was soon called into action as the Rolleston defence had to soak up more pressure, Daniel Shill making a good tackle when another goal looked likely.

Daniel then replaced Jake in goal and Scott Watkins and Declan Glasby came on for Harry Gaunt and Jake.

The Lions' piled on the misery by scoring a sixth shortly afterwards but Rolleston kept on playing, in fact, the final minutes of the game saw the Rolleston midfield pick up the pace, Scott Watkins tracking back 30 metres or more to make a vital tackle. Daniel Shill then moved off his line to make a fine blocking save. Joshua Harris had to come off with an injury and was replaced by Jimmy and Daniel was called on again to make a good save.

Final score 0-6

A tough lesson today, Newhall really wanted this win, they are second in the table and showed exactly why. Rolleston did play well for a couple of short spells but just could not live with the Lions over 60 minutes today.

Man of the Match: No MoM today, simply put, no one player stood out above the rest.

05th January 2008

David Hunt Soccer School Red 1-2 Rolleston Black

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: Thomas Chamberlain, Daniel Shill. Midfield: Shaun Harrison, Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Scott Watkins, Declan Glasby, Blake Skinner.

Not available: James Tunnicliffe.

Another viciously cold winter morning at Shobnall and the first game in over a month due to bad weather and the Christmas break.

The opening minutes of this game were lively and the two sides seemed evenly matched with lots of midfield play but no chances.

Rolleston did create an early chance but the shot from the edge of the box by Liam Dakin was blocked before it reached the goal. Shaun Harrison and Ryan Lister were both working hard in the centre of midfield and neede to be because the DHSS midfield were pressing hard.

The game settled down to a midfield battle but a flowing move down the right saw Liam Dakin run onto a perfect pass from Harry Gaunt and Liam slotted the ball neatly into the corner of the net to put Rolleston 1-0 up.

This spurred David Hunt Soccer School into life and they really put Rolleston under a lot of pressure for the next few minutes, Daniel Shill and Thomas Chamberlain made tackle after tackle (both players had excellent games today) and Jake Fearn in goal made a crucial blocking save to keep DHSS out.

Liam Dakin got onto the end of a through ball but the DHSS keeper saved for a corner. From this corner, the ball was half cleared to our right and Joshua Harris played a cross into the heart of the DHSS goalmouth but their goalie was on hand to collect.

Joshua Harris then got clear himself but the ball was on his left side and the shot was again collected by the keeper. From the keeper's kick, DHSS worked the ball straight down the pitch into our penalty area and a good shot was well saved by Jake but the rebound was put into the net, 1-1.

For the rest of the first half, DHSS really put Rolleston under pressure, hitting a post when it looked like the ball was going in and having several shots just wide of goal and Jake again made a good diving save, pushing the ball around the post for a corner.

Right at the end of the half Jake made another vital save, blocking the ball on the goal line with his legs when a goal seemed certain.

Half time 1-1.

Alan's half time talk did the trick because Rolleston came out for the second half really fired up and they created two chances in quick succession, a Liam Dakin pass found Joshua Harris and his shot was well saved and a good run and cross from Harry Gaunt was again collected by the keeper.

DHSS were also looking to take control of the game and Jake Fearn made an outstanding diving save to his left to deny them.

Scott Watkins replaced Shaun Harrison and had an immediate effect, probably his best performance this season, he was all over midfield, tackled well and passed the ball around intelligently.

The game had evened out at this point and it was impossible to say which team would come out on top, DHSS had chances but their shots were wide of the mark. Rolleston created chances for Joshua (wide), Liam (saved) and Scott (wide). Liam Gray was then put through on goal and Rolleston was awarded a penalty when the referee decided Liam was tripped (and to be fair, that was a generous decision). The penalty went just wide, so the score remained 1-1.

Rolleston were immediately back on the attack and a perfect pass from Joshua was hit on the run by Liam Gray, the ball flew straight into the far corner and gave a 2-1 lead to Rolleston, simply a great goal!

Again DHSS came back at the Rolleston defence and a powerful drive from one of their strikers was calmly caught by Jake. Blake Skinner replaced Thomas and Declan Glasby replaced Harry and both played their part in seeing out the remaining minutes of the game, the final whistle was met with a big cheer from the Rolleston parents.

Scorers:

  • Liam Dakin (1)
  • Liam Gray (1)

Man of the Match: Jake Fearn - kept Rolleston in the game during the first half and made vital saves thoughout the game.

Finally, get well soon to the Stretton Swifts player who was injured on the pitch next to ours and needed to be taken off to hospital by ambulance.

01st December 2007

Unfortunately Marlborough withdrew from the league a few weeks after this game so the points and the goals were removed from Rolleston's results.

Marlborough Rovers 2000 0-9 Rolleston Black

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: Thomas Chamberlain, James Tunnicliffe. Midfield: Shaun Harrison, Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Scott Watkins, Declan Glasby, Daniel Shill.

Not available: Blake Skinner.

Before I get into the detail of this match, Marlborough Rovers should be thanked for their attitude and effort in this game. They only had eight players available but put on a battling performance and their heads never dropped.

Another very cold morning and an early kick off and Rolleston put Marlborough under pressure from the start without creating a chance on goal. There was an interruption when a Rovers player was hit in the face with the ball and needed treatment and from the restart Rolleston moved quickly into the penalty box and a pass across goal left Harry Gaunt with a tap in for his first goal of the season, 0-1 to Rolleston.

More pressure from the Blacks and a really smooth passing move that saw James Tunnicliffe slide a pass through to Liam Dakin who passed to Liam Gray who then slipped the ball through to Joshua Harris to set up a chance on goal but unfortunately he was flagged offside.this was soon followed by another chance following a 1-2 passing move between Joshua and Liam Dakin but a defender prevented the shot on goal.

Another determined attack on goal down the right saw the ball flash across the face of goal and Liam Gray was in the right place to calmly hit a half volley into the net, 0-2 to the Blacks. James Tunnicliffe and Thomas Chamberlain were having a quiet day in defence but when needed, they won the ball and then set up an attacking move.

The third goal followed soon after and was created by another good move between Harry and Joshua which left Liam Gray with a tap in goal, 0-3. A first time shot from Liam Dakin saw the ball come off the inside of the post, unlucky, but getting closer! We could have gone further ahead but the referee stopped play for an injury just as Liam Dakin put the ball in the net, it was the right decision but a little frustrating!

Joshua then ran through onto a pass from Ryan and hit a good shot into the corner of the net and gave Rolleston a 0-4 lead at half time.

Declan Glasby and Daniel Shill replaced Liam Gray and James Tunnicliffe at half time and Rolleston started the second half at pace, creating a chance directly from the kick off and this was shortly followed by a powerful shot from Liam Dakin that went just over the crossbar. Another well worked move between Harry and Joshua who crossed to leave Liam Dakin with a simple shot and we were leading 0-5.

Liam Dakin had another shot saved, the goalkeeper pushing the ball around the post for a corner and at this point Rolleston were totally dominating play. A rare Marlborough attack saw Rolleston concede a free kick on the edge of our penalty area and Jake Fearn made a good save from the shot that followed.

More pressure followed from Rolleston and Shaun Harrison made it 0-6 with a powerful long range shot that surprised the keeper and the ball ended up in the net, well done Shaun, that goal has been coming for a few weeks now!

Another Rolleston corner saw the Rovers keeper make a good double save from both Declan and Liam Dakin and shortly after, a shot from the edge of the box by Ryan found it's way over the line and we were 0-7 up.

Scott Watkins then replaced Harry Gaunt and Rolleston kept up the pressure, Liam Dakin got through on goal and his shot was just wide. A corner to Rolleston saw the ball bobble in front of goal and Liam Dakin was there to put the ball into the goal once more, 0-8.

At this point, Marlbrough created two chances in quick succession but Daniel Shill and Scott Watkins both made good tackles to break up the attacks.

Joshua then ran through the defence and drilled the ball into the net to make it 0-9 and there was still time for Ryan to make a superb run down the right wing, crossing the ball fiercely and Liam Dakin only just missed getting on the end of it.

The final whistle blew just as Joshua was shooting from the edge of the box, a pity because the ball hit the back of the net again but the final score remained 0-9 to Rolleston Black.

Scorers:

  • Liam Gray (2)
  • Liam Dakin (2)
  • Joshua Harris (2)
  • Harry Gaunt (1)
  • Shaun Harrison (1)

Man of the Match: Liam Dakin - two goals after keeping calm when his early shots did not find the net, troubled the defence for the whole game and linked up the play between midfield and attack.

**CUP** Stretton Eagles Blue 2-1 Rolleston Black

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: Thomas Chamberlain, James Tunnicliffe. Midfield: Shaun Harrison, Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Scott Watkins, Declan Glasby.

Not available: Blake Skinner, Daniel Shill.

On a bitterly cold Autumn morning, Rolleston Black faced a tough cup match, playing against Stretton Eagles Blue from the First Division. The first five minutes of the game were played mostly in midfield with both sides struggling to keep the ball and string a few passes together. However, on about five minutes, Rolleston played a through ball that split the Stretton defence and both Joshua Harris and Liam Gray broke through, Joshua got to the ball first and a cool finish saw Rolleston take the lead 0-1.

Stretton then enjoyed a period of pressure, keeping the ball in the Rolleston half but not actually putting our goal under any serious threat at the time due to James Tunnicliffe and Thomas Chamberlain defending well. The pressure further increased on the Rolleston defence and after two corners to Stretton in quick succession, the ball was passed out onto the Stretton left wing and one of their players hit a powerful long range shot over Jake and into the net to equalise, 1-1.

This woke Rolleston up and they got back into the game and the rest of the first half was more evenly balanced. Liam Dakin and the Stretton keeper both went for a 50-50 ball which the keeper saved but was injured in the process. Joshua Harris took a pass down the left wing from Liam Gray and dribbled the ball impressively, winning a corner.

Jake was called on to make a brave blocking save but the Stretton player had already been flagged for offside. Liam Gray then won us a corner after another good run down the left and then Liam also had a good volleyed shot saved from that corner.

As the half ended, there was still time for Liam Dakin to pounce on a half chance but his powerful shot was just wide.

Half time: 1-1

The second half started with Rolleston enjoying both the possession and the pressure, pinning the Eagles back into their own half. Shaun Harrison and Ryan Lister were both having an impressive game in midfield and it was a long range shot from Shaun that dipped over the Stretton keeper but then hit the crossbar, unfortunately it dropped to a Stretton defender and the danger was cleared. Harry Gaunt then had a shot tipped over the bar by the Eagles keeper when it looked destined for the back of the net.

A Rolleston free kick was then saved and we were flagged for offside when trying to finish off the rebound. At this point, it was the Eagles that got back into the game and put Rolleston under pressure for a while.

Scott Watkins replaced Thomas Chamberlain but the Eagles pressure continued and they took the lead when a corner on the left bounced across the face of the goal and a Stretton player met it at the far post for a tap in to make the score 2-1.

A few minutes later, Stretton were awarded a penalty from what looked like a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge. The penalty was well saved by Jake diving down to his left and smother the ball. This incident spoiled the rest of the game as tempers rose and both sides gave away a succession of free kicks.

Declan Glasby replaced Liam Gray on the left and in the final minutes, Declan, Scott, Ryan and Shaun all worked tirelessly in midfield to keep the ball in the Stretton half and create chances for our strikers.

Final score: Stretton 2-1 Rolleston.

Another very impressive performance today, we gave a first division team a tough game for the whole 60 minutes and were unlucky to lose. We do need to concentrate on the game, not get unsettled by distractions and accept the referee's decision especially when it does seem like the wrong one!

Scorer: Joshua Harris

Man of the Match: Shaun Harrison - dynamic midfield performance, ran, tackled, passed the ball all over the pitch.

Rolleston Red 4-0 Rolleston Black

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: Thomas Chamberlain, James Tunnicliffe, Shaun Harrison, Midfield: Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Liam Gray, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Blake Skinner, Scott Watkins, Daniel Shill, Declan Glasby.

A cold morning with a fierce wind blowing across the pitch made conditions for playing (or watching!) football difficult today. The first few minutes of this game were as evenly matched as last week, most of the play was in midfield and attacks were quickly broken up by both defences, Thomas Chamberlain clearing well under pressure and James Tunnicliffe playing with pace in defence and taking some huge throw-ins.

Shaun Harrison moved confidently into the Red's half and had a long range shot at goal that was well caught by the keeper. The Reds counter attacked and a pass flashed across the face of the Black's goal and we were fortunate there was no one there to meet it as our defence had not covered the goalmouth.

The game was still evenly balanced at this point and the Black's responded with a similar move, down the wing and a pass from Harry Gaunt across the goal, this time a Red's defender put the ball out for a corner. The corner was well taken and Liam Dakin's header was powerful but wide of the goal.

Jake Fearn was then called upon to make a good save from a low, powerful shot from Matt Webster and this proved to be the beginning of a dominant spell for the Red's that proved decisive. The Reds' took the lead on 15 minutes following a good passing move, a fierce shot was well saved by Jake but the ball rebounded into the path of a Red's player who calmly put the ball into the back of the net.

We had to soak up a lot of pressure for the next few minutes but still created a few chances, Joshua Harris played a diagonal pass though into the Red's penalty area but their keeper anticipated well and was there to collect the ball.

Another through ball from Joshua was cleared by the defence and from the corner (again well taken), Joshua hit an impressive volley that just cleared the crossbar. Blake Skinner replaced James and Scott Watkins came on for Thomas.

Rolleston Red added a second goal when, after a period of pressure around our penalty box, a half cleared ball was played back in front of an undefended goal and the ball was in the net again. This was repeated just before half time when an attempted clearance went across our own penalty box and there were three Red's players queuing up to shoot and one of them found the net. Scott was replaced by James and we ended the half at 3-0 to the Red's.

The second half stared off with two quick raids down the left from the Red's and both moves ended with shots that were well blocked by Jake. An attack down the right was then stopped by an excellent tackle from Blake Skinner who came away with the ball and then started a move, passing to Liam Gray who moved with the ball and made a pass that ended with Liam Dakin making a long run through on goal but the Red's defence managed to block his way and their keeper collected the ball.

Jake was called upon to make another good save, diving to his right to push the ball away from goal, the ball wasn't cleared though and the Red's came back at goal down the left and a fierce shot found the back of the net to make the score 4-0. Shortly afterwards, the Red's had the ball in the net again but this time an offside decision prevented the goal.

The Black's then got back in the game in terms of competing for the ball and the possession evened out, Joshua had another half volley saved and a fine run from Harry Gaunt down the right was stopped by a desperate lunge resulting in a free kick. Scott Watkins came on after an injury to Ryan Lister and kept up the improved second half midfield display for the Black's.

Declan Glasby replaced Liam Gray and Daniel Shill replaced Blake Skinner.

In the final minutes of the game, Jake made another good save and Daniel Shill made a vital tackle when he was the last defender.

So, the final score was 4-0 to the Red's, another game played in the right spirit by both teams. The Black squad can take a lot of confidence from the last two games, they have competed well for three quarters of the two games they have played against a team who look like favourites for promotion.

Man of the Match: Ryan Lister - For a tireless display in midfield, well played!

Rolleston Black 1-1 Rolleston Red

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: James Tunnicliffe, Shaun Harrison, Blake Skinner, Midfield: Liam Gray, Ryan Lister, Scott Watkins, Harry Gaunt, Striker: Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Liam Dakin, Declan Glasby, Daniel Shill, Thomas Chamberlain.

An Autumn morning perfect for football and the first of back-to-back games against Rolleston Red who came into this game with six wins from six games. So a tough challenge for Rolleston Black, could they match their club rivals?

The early minutes of the game were evenly matched, both teams had their share of possession and both teams worked the ball down the pitch with both defences holding firm. Ryan Lister and Scott Watkins covered loads of ground in the middle, tackling, passing and keeping the Red's midfield occupied.

Harry Gaunt and Liam Gray both had good runs down the wings and both tracked back into defence when required. Joshua Harris showed good movement and kept the Red's defence busy, running all across the line and was a constant threat. At the back, Shaun Harrison was winning the ball and starting moves and was well supported by James Tunnicliffe and Blake Skinner, James' long range throws were also used to good effect.

After 15 minutes Liam Dakin replaced Scott and Thomas Chamberlain replaced Blake. At this point the game seemed to open up and there followed a succession of chances for both teams, Liam Dakin broke through the defence twice, a brave save from Oliver Jones in the Red's goal and a last ditch block from a defender kept us out and at the other end, Jake Fearn made two outstanding saves and was also in the right place to deflect a fierce shot onto the crossbar and the half ended with the game being played at high tempo and with great skill from both teams.

Half Time: 0-0.

The second half began in much the same way, real end-to-end stuff and a great match to watch. The Black's created a few opportunities for Liam Dakin and Joshua Harris but the Red's defence of Dominic Hickman, Daniel Featherstone and Lee Johnson defended their penalty area well and protected their goalkeeper.

Jake Fearn was called on to make two further saves, one a brave block and the second a fine one-handed save and the defence also worked tirelessly to keep the Red's strikers out.

Midway through the second half, the Black's worked the ball well through midfield and into the Red's area, a block caused the ball to bounce up and Joshua Harris hit a superb half volley that looked destined for the top corner but the Red's goalkeeper pulled off an excellent save, pushing the ball onto the crossbar. The ball bounced back into play and Liam Gray was there to hit a perfect left foot volley across the goal into the far corner, 1-0 to the Blacks! (and the crowd went wild!!)

All credit to the Red's, they did not let their heads drop and kept playing despite this setback. The game remained evenly balanced, Declan Glasby and Daniel Shill came on for the Black's and there were further chances at both ends. As the game wore on, the Red's had a period where they started to dominate but still the Black's defence held firm but with just minutes left, Matt Webster broke through on goal and although Jake came off his line and narrowed the angle well, Matt placed a shot into the corner for the equaliser, 1-1.

The last few minutes were tense and the Black's had one last chance that fell to Liam Dakin but the Red's defence kept him out.

Final Score: 1-1

Well done to the whole squad, this was an excellent performance and you should be proud of this result, same effort next week please!

Thanks to Glen and the Red's squad for an entertaining game played in the right spirit.

Scorer: Liam Gray

Man of the Match: Liam Gray - A dynamic performance at left midfield and an excellent goal

Newhall FC Lions 3-4 Rolleston Black

Starting this week: Goalkeeper: Jake Fearn, Defence: James Tunnicliffe, Blake Skinner, Midfield: Liam Gray, Shaun Harrison, Scott Watkins, Harry Gaunt, Strikers: Liam Dakin, Joshua Harris.

Substitutes: Declan Glasby, Ryan Lister, Thomas Chamberlain, Daniel Shill.

First-things-first, Newhall played a big part in making this a very entertaining game, they gave it 100% from the first whistle to the last and were a credit to their club.

Simply put, this was a thrilling match to watch with hardly a foul to be seen. Rolleston started the game at pace and had a lot of the early posession in the first 5 minutes, putting the Newhall defence under a lot of pressure without actually having many shots on goal.

In defence, James and Blake were solid, stopping any forward move from Newhall before it really got started. In midfield, Liam Gray and Harry Gaunt were running at the Newhall defence and looking threatening whilst Scott and Shaun in the middle were buzzing about, winning tackles and passing well. Liam Dakin and Joshua Harris were both troubling the Newhall defence, running onto passes and keeping the linesman busy, a few close offside decisions keeping the score level.

Newhall then had a good spell of their own, creating a few chances and just like in recent weeks, Rolleston found themselves 2-0 down against the overall run of play.

Rolleston immediately found another gear, flooding forward and creating a number of chances. A smart pass through the defence and Liam Dakin ran through, took a touch to control the ball and draw the keeper off the line and calmly slotted the ball into the corner to make the score 2-1.

Ryan replaced Liam Gray on the left and Daniel replaced James in defence.

The final few minutes of the half were end-to-end, both teams worked hard but the score remained 2-1.

Rolleston started the second half well, again the linesman's flag halting a few attempts on goal. Eventually though, this pressure paid off and Joshua scored well to take the score to 2-2.

Now Rolleston were back on level terms and fired up. After a few minutes of pressure from Rolleston they won a corner on the left which was cleared back out to our left, the ball pinged around a little and Joshua collected it way over on the left and had a little time and space. Joshua then unleashed a ferocious shot that beat the keeper at the near post and was in the back of the net before anyone could move, what a goal!!!

Despite letting a two goal lead slip and finding themselves behinfd in the game, Newhall kept their heads up and immediately put Rolleston under pressure. After a few close calls, Newhall found their way through to level the game at 3-3.

Liam Gray came back on for Ryan, Declan replaced Scott and Thomas came on for Blake.

Both teams were still going for the result and the rest of the game was end-to-end, both teams having chances. Liam Dakin and Joshua both had runs through on goal that were stopped by some fine defending from Newhall but eventually a fierce shot from Liam Dakin was saved by the keeper but he could only push the shot back into Liams path and he followed up well and the ball hit the back of the net again, 4-3 to Rolleston.

This game still had some excitement left in it when with just a minute or so to go, Newhall broke forward to score but the referee ruled the striker offisde, much to the Rolleston player's (and parent's) relief!

At the final whistle, we relieved Rolleston fans gave a big cheer and applauded the players off the pitch.

An excellent performance this week, committment, desire, played for each other as a team and the win was a deserved result.

Thanks to Newhall for helping make this such a good match to watch.

Scorers:

  • Liam Dakin (2)
  • Joshua Harris (2)

Man of the Match: Joshua Harris - always troubling the Newhall defenders and scored twice, including that wicked shot from the left.

Congratulations to Liam Dakin who has been selected to train with Birmingham City FC Academy

Winshill FC Gold 5-0 Rolleston Black

As I write this on Monday, I still can't quite believe the final score from this game! For most of the first 10 minutes of this match, Rolleston attacked Winshill in waves, creating chance after chance but no goals.

During those first 10 minutes, Winshill hardly got the ball out of their half and when they did, Shaun Harrison, Daniel Shill and Thomas Chamberlain were quick to win the ball back and through Liam Gray, Ryan Lister, James Tunnicliffe and Harry Gaunt at different times in midfield, the ball was played through for Liam Dakin and Joshua Harris to again pressure the Winshill goal.

On 10 minutes though, Winshill had their first attack and scored. Rolleston again went on the attack only for Winshill to soak up the pressure for 5 minutes, counter attack and score again.

The rest of the first half was end-to-end, both sides having a number of shots on goal and winning numerous corners. Winshill finished the first half by adding a third goal and it is to their credit that they soaked up so much pressure but ended the half well on top.

The second half was again end-to-end, Declan Glasby, Scott Watkins and Blake Skinner as second half substitutes all did their bit, both sides had chances but it was Winshill who added a further two goals. Rolleston won a penalty mid way through the half when Liam Dakin had both legs taken from under him when through on goal. The penalty was well struck but flashed just wide!

Final score 5-0.

A hard result to take, Winshill took their chances today and were probably worth their win but the score did not reflect the hard work put in by all the Rolleston squad.

Man of the Match: Liam Dakin - Loads of effort, plenty of shots and never stopped trying.

22nd September 2007

Rolleston Black 3-3 David Hunt Soccer School Red

Rolleston started this game with both pace and intensity, pushing DHSS into their own penalty area and raining shots on goal. Our first goal came after about ten minutes, Joshua Harris striking a clean shot into the net. This was shortly followed by a second when a fierce shot from Liam Dakin was too much for the DHSS keeper and the ball squirmed from his grasp and into the net.

This seemed to wake DHSS up and they started to match Rolleston for effort and then started to create chances. After a period of DHSS pressure just before the end of the half, they scored two quick goals to level the score.

At the beginning of the second half, Rolleston again dominated, creating a succession of chances, finally rewarded by a well taken goal by Liam Dakin. Again this woke DHSS up and they responded with an equaliser when a fierce shot from the right was well saved by Jake Fearn only for the DHSS striker to head it back across and into the far corner.

Final score 3-3 but with a little more luck Rolleston would have had all 3 points today.

Scorers:

  • Joshua Harris
  • Liam Dakin (2)

Winshill FC Green 0-7 Rolleston Black

This was the third game of the season and the lads are coping quite well and playing some good football. Straight from the kick-off Rolleston took control of this game, pinning Winshill in their own half and our defence marked the Winshill's players so tightly that they just couldn't break through.

Our strikers Joshua Harris and Liam Dakin were on form again this week and communicating with each other all through the game and the midfield of Liam Gray, Ryan Lister and Harry Gaunt were competing for every ball and passing well.About eight minutes into the game, Joshua Harris broke through Winshill's defence and scored the first goal of the match and there was no stopping him this morning as minutes later he scored again making it 2-0.

Liam Gray joined us last season having moved here from South Africa, he has worked hard in trainning and improved tremendously which shown this morning with the way he dominated the left hand side of the pitch with some great runs down the line and some lovely passing to the strikers, he is a big asset to the team.

Another great pass from Liam Gray to Liam Dakin gave Rolleston our third goal as it flew pass the Winshill keeper, with the half time whistle, Rolleston were leading 3-0.

In the second half, Rolleston took possession with Winshill putting the ball out for a corner under pressure, Shaun Harrison took it, putting over the keeper for Joshua to pass it back in, Shaun again returned the pass for Joshua to turn and score, 4-0 and a hat-trick for Joshua Harris.

Rolleston carried on pushing in every area of the pitch with Daniel Shill, Blake Skinner and Thomas Chamberlain with Shaun Harrison just pushing up, were strong in defence all game.

Harry Gaunt, Ryan Lister, Scott Watkins, Liam Gray and Declan Glasby took turns in sorting midfield out quite nicely with some lovely passing to Liam and Joshua upfront and also running back to help out defence when needed, the midfield and strikers having many shots on goal but give Winshill their due, their goalkeeper was excellent.

With more corners, throw ins and pressure, Rolleston through Liam Dakin added 3 more goals, giving him his first hat-trick of the season too. At the final whistle, Rolleston had won their first game of the season with a great result of 7-0.

Every lad in my squad gave 100% performance today, WELL DONE LADS.

Scorers:

  • Joshua Harris (3)
  • Liam Dakin (4)

Man of the Match: Liam Gray for an excellent performance in midfield, he never gave up and was a terror on the left side of the pitch.

Rolleston Black 1-1 Winshill Gold

Second game into the new season and playing a team that came down from Division 1, Rolleston started off very brightly with Liam Dakin and Joshua Harris having a couple shots on goal which went just wide.
